Briefs from Spanx and Nancy Ganz were among the most-often-mentioned brands, but both have drawbacks: Nancy Ganz only comes in a restricted range of sizes, and Spanx, no matter how lightweight, isn’t breathable and makes you run warm (and no one thinks that a sweaty butt is pretty).
Rago's mesh briefs feature a delicate floral pattern and are lighter than other options; they are available in sizes ranging from 00 to 46. Freer suggests them because "firm-hold granny panty features special V-shaped leg openings that allow it to expand around the thigh," allowing you to move freely while sitting, standing, and dancing. The lone seam on these pants is inconspicuously placed between the wearer's cheeks.

While Yummie does produce shapewear bottoms, the brand's tanks are where the brand shines, and it is these that Levine typically recommends her clients wear when they are being photographed or interviewed. She praised the shoes, saying, "I adore how soft yet fitted they are." Levine "particularly loves" this tank "for beneath sheath dresses and blouses" because of its two movable inner panels.
Brown is another enthusiast who says it performs well even under snug sweaters. Levine believes the tank can be worn on its own "with a great pair of slacks" because of its reversible neckline and nonslip hem. Step into the garment and shimmy it up to put on any shaping tank, which may seem illogical if you're used to putting on regular shirts.

6.) +Body by Julia Haart Powersuit: Comfy For Any Body Shape: Full Body Coverage As Comfy As Your Own Bra
It was ambiguous to me which shapewear option was the greatest in general. Despite meeting the criteria of comfort and style, a limited selection of sizes was a problem for many popular brands like Spanx and Maidenform Flexees. Even though shorts are a versatile addition to every wardrobe, it felt off to single them out as the best of the best. For my research, I zeroed in on +Body by Julia Haart, a shapewear line named after its founder and CEO and available in a wide range of sizes (and star of My Unorthodox Life).
Possibly due to its relative novelty, none of the experts we consulted had heard of this particular brand. However, after comparing and contrasting it to four other products that were highly recommended by our panel, we concluded that this one was the best buy.
All sizes go up to a 3X, which is not the case for many popular labels (though it seems like the top of the size range sells out fairly quickly). Instead of being forced to wear an ugly top that squeezes your breasts together, you can choose from a range of cup sizes, from A to F.
Lightly compressing and smoothing your torso, this lace-like nylon has a more practical purpose. This bodysuit (thanks to its flattering cut and beautiful print) can easily be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. The laser-cut edges are smooth and undetectable beneath clothing. The bra has changeable padding and straps so you can get the perfect fit, and I can attest that it is comfortable because the material is soft and stretchy rather than constricting.
The best part, though, is that it improved my self-esteem. Most of the other shapewear I tried were uncomfortable and unattractive; I would be ashamed if anyone saw me wearing it alone. This can have a significant psychological impact.
Not the cheapest choice, but you should feel comfortable in the clothes you wear, both physically and emotionally, and many of the cheaper shapewear pieces appear to provide you with only one of those benefits, not both.
7.) Skims Sculpting Bodysuit With Snaps: Daily Comfort in a Shapewear Bodysuit
Many fashion experts have cited Kim Kardashian’s line Skims as a great low-cost alternative. It has a wide size range, from XXS to 5X, and nine various skin-tone hues, but it can't be worn alone like +Body and doesn't offer precise cup sizes.
I didn't feel ridiculous in it, and it looks like a skin-colored leotard, so I'm giving it the "best overall" award as well. The designer suggests sizing larger for optimal comfort if you plan on wearing it daily since it does a good job of shaping your figure without being restrictive.
My anonymous friend wears this bodysuit frequently and complains that the all-around compression makes her breasts look smaller than she'd like but that she feels confident in skintight clothes. Kim would never deliberately downplay a woman's derriere, so she added sheer pockets and a high-cut leg to the backside to accentuate rather than flatten. Ali Levine, a famous stylist, recommends this lace dress from Bali as a more budget-friendly alternative that still manages to look chic.

8.) TC Strapless Shaper Bodysuit: Straps or Strapless, Lose the Muffin Top
Strapless top, you should probably get rid of the bra straps, too. This TC Fine Intimates bodysuit can be worn with or without the included straps, depending on your preference. According to Levine, it "gives you the perfect foundation" because it flatters "every inch of your body" (tummy, waist, and back) and works with a wide variety of necklines.
"I've used it for award shows like the Emmys and the Oscars," she says. Instead of choosing a size based on how well it fits your torso, you choose your size based on the measures of your bra band, which range from 32B to 40C. For the reason that it is described as "extra firm," it will be restrictive in any size.
Reviewers note that it deeply compresses your body and is not intended for regular usage, but Levine feels it's tolerable to wear for a formal event where you'd like to look your best.
9.) Spanx Suit Your Fancy Plunge Low-Back Mid-Thigh Bodysuit: The Original in Spandex Women’s Shapewear
Spanx was the market leader in shapewear for quite some time, and their products were among the few that were comfortable for women to wear. Experts and stylists agree that the Spanx bodysuits are the most impressive garments they sell.
Modnitsa Styling owner Dina Scherer recommended this Spanx piece to us since it goes well with plunging necklines and backless dresses or tops. It has thigh-length legs and padded cups, so you can bare a lot of skin without compromising on support. Unfortunately, it only goes up to an XL, which may be a deal-breaker for those who demand a precise fit in their underwear.
10.) Spanx OnCore Open-Bust Panty Bodysuit: Keep Your Own Bra
The aforementioned person who favors bras with a certain cup size may find more comfort in an open-bust bodysuit. You get the same sculpting effect as the full Spanx bodysuit, but you get to keep your bra. Stylist Alison Deyette has found that her clients prefer this option since it provides a soothing effect on the abdomen, hips, and back without the need for a bra.
For something that lets more air in, stylist and Strategist contributor Alison Freer recommends this Rago open-bust bodysuit created from lightweight sculpting mesh. It's "that firm, you could bounce a quarter off of it, but it's also startlingly comfortable," as Freer puts it; this is a demonstration of the power of well-made clothing on women.

The greatest shaping bottoms, according to Freer, are usually high-waisted because "anything that cuts you off in the center of your midriff won't be able to do much genuine shaping."
